The New Moon @ 14°24′ Libra occurs on October 7th, 2010 @ 2:45 pm EDT; 6:45  pm UT.

Libra, as the 7th sign of the natural Zodiac, is the 1st sign that concerns itself with “other”. It is within Libra that we take our first steps in developing harmonic relationships and is the space in which we we seek compatibility through compromise while adjusting our boundaries accordingly to better suit our quest for right relationships.

By the time we have entered into Libra we have journeyed through the first 6 signs, Aries through Virgo, and have sought a greater knowledge of self while developing our individual attributes. The last 6 signs, Libra through Pisces, are the space in which we bring forth our best attributes of self while seeking to enrich our self-understandings through experiences that are external to us. In Libra we develop our comprehension of the “We” principle and eventually expand our comprehension to include the One Self by the time we complete our journey of the Zodiac at the end of Pisces.

With the annual Libra New Moon our focused intentions are upon the development of harmonic relationships and with Saturn in residence in the Sign of Partnerships this year we are urged to focus not only upon harmony yet also upon sustainability. Saturn, exalted within Libra, is challenging us to define our perceptions of right relationship and to align our actions to whatever ideal we find we resonate with. Saturn wants us to ‘walk our talk’ and to do so we must become clear on exactly what it is that our talk is espousing in very real terms and what very real measures are required of us to walk that talk.

Saturn is often referred to as the taskmaster. Our task while Saturn journeys though Libra is to bring our relationships into a proper structure through achieving a balance of two individual energies/entities that allows for the two previously individual energies to function harmonically as a 3rd energy/entity. This balancing and blending of 2 individual energies does not require either party to be sacrificing of their true nature but does require a willingness to allow one’s self and the other(s) to expand into this 3rd energy of union at your/their own pace and in whatever way is healthy and comfortable for you/them.

The specifics for this New Moon in Libra find the lunation in a wide conjunction to Mercury- Saturn whom are united in a tight orb. The blended energies of Mercury and Saturn produce a serious atmosphere for our thoughts during this Moon yet also add an element of clarity and decisiveness. Willingness to partake in conversations that produce solid results in relation to Libra initiatives is supported yet there is a caution to not be overly authoritative or restrictive of another that is seeking to state themselves. Mercury-Saturn can be highly beneficial for structuring one’s idea’s into a solid plan for action just be aware of the possibility of formulating something that may have come from a narrow or even depressive point of view and allow for space for further adjustments if you should find that to be true in the future. In simple terms..don’t paint yourself into a corner nor burn any bridges that you may find at another point you wished to cross! 🙂

This lunation has no other major aspects.

The ruler of the Libra New Moon and dispositor for the entire Libra line-up is Venus, taking residence in Scorpio, whom is preparing to turn retrograde just one day hence. With the ruler of this lunation in Scorpio and turning retrograde in such a short space after the New Moon it is quite likely that our experience(s) during the next 2 weeks of this current lunation phase will certainly feel intense and may indeed BE intense. Yet just because an experience is perceived as intense does not mean it necessarily should be construed as a negative occurrence for that is really for the most a matter of perception by the one having the experience and often in hindsight is seen as a blessing! It is also notable that not only is the Moon and Sun merged upon this New Moon, but also that Venus and Mars are still within a very close orb conjunction, so within the union of our astral feminine and masculine representatives we continue to seek our own inner and outer unions of these feminine and masculine expressions.

Looking to the Sabian Symbols for further clues as to the tone’s of this lunation we find the Sun/Moon is located upon the degree of “Circular Paths” while Venus, the lunation ruler, is upon the degree of “Telephone Lineman at Work Installing New Connections”.

When meditating upon the Sabian Symbol for the Lunation degree, Circular Paths, images are evoked of The Wheel and of the many ebbs and flows we experience and how through those ebbs and flows we find we are strengthened due to the repetition of experience. There is a stability that comes with retracing one’s path and a deepening character is infused within the ground under our feet as each time we cross over the same space our knowledge of that space is expanded. With this degree of Circular Paths found within the social 2nd decan of Libra the possibility is suggested that when two separate Circular Paths (Ο + Ο) that have been individually reinforced merge we then have a third entity( ∞ )that is more evolved than the original two paths were when operating separately.

The Venus degree, also in the social 2nd decan and ruler of the lunation and dispositor of all of the current Libra residents, offers insights as to how we might go about forming these third entities by sharing this symbol:  “A Telephone Lineman at Work Installing New Connections”.  A telephone lineman’s directive is not only to install new connections(bring together two parties) but to also ensure that the communication line between two parties is clear. This insight serves to remind that honest discourse allows for no misrepresentation that might weaken the bond between individuals and that when making new connections by being truthful and forthcoming we are afforded the best chance for achieving a sustainable 3rd entity form between ourselves and another.

With these symbols in mind I think we can look forward to the weeks ahead fortifying existing relationships, possibly infusing new life into past relationships while bringing them into more viable and current expressions and also to the further establishing of new relations that will continue to bring us closer to living the new ideals we have been working on thus far this year.

After the Cardinal Squares of this past summer and the upheavals we are just now coming out of most should have a good idea of which relationships in their personal lives were supportive and which were not. Also, in some cases we might have found that we ourselves could improve our manners of supporting others.
